Safaricom PLC has announced a strategic partnership with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) to explore the use of mobile phone data insights for policy development and national planning.

The announcement was made during Day 3 of the Global Data Festival and Kenya Space Expo & Conference, where discussions focused on data innovation, privacy, and the future of digital ecosystems.

The partnership is expected to leverage the capabilities of both institutions to support more informed, evidence-based decision-making in Kenya. It aims to strengthen the use of data analytics in shaping national development strategies and improving policy outcomes.

As part of the event, Safaricom’s Head of Customer Privacy, Sharon Holi, participated in a panel discussion titled “From Data Silos to Ethical Insights: Balancing Value and Privacy.” The session brought together industry leaders to examine how responsible data use and privacy-by-design principles can enhance trust while enabling innovation.

Participants emphasized the importance of ethical data practices in scaling digital solutions and addressing societal needs.

The engagements formed part of broader discussions at the conference on how data and technology can support a more inclusive, informed, and innovation-driven future.
