The School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana has hosted a workshop aimed at strengthening awareness on open access publishing, open educational resources, and the risks associated with predatory publishing and conferences.

The session was organised by the SES Mentorship and Outreach Committees and brought together faculty, staff, and graduate students for discussions on maintaining academic integrity in scholarly communication.

The workshop featured two international facilitators, Ms. Julia Gelfand, retired Applied Sciences and Engineering Librarian at the University of California, Irvine, and Prof. Cedrick Kwuimy, Associate Professor in Engineering and Computing Education at the University of Cincinnati. Both experts provided insights drawn from extensive academic and professional experience, offering participants a global perspective on evolving publishing practices.

Organisers noted that the engagement formed part of broader efforts to equip the academic community with the knowledge needed to navigate the growing complexities of research dissemination in the digital age.

Leadership of the SES Mentorship Committee, chaired by Prof. AgyeiTuffour Benjamin, and the SES Outreach Committee, chaired by Ing Dr. Peace Amoatey, was acknowledged for coordinating and co-chairing the event.

Participants were commended for their active involvement and contribution to discussions throughout the workshop.
