Safaricom Ethiopia CEO visits Debre Markos to strengthen digital connectivity partnerships

Safaricom Ethiopia Chief Executive Officer Wim Vanhelleputte has visited Debre Markos to review the company’s operations in the area and engage local authorities on ongoing initiatives aimed at expanding digital connectivity and supporting socio-economic development.

During the working visit, Vanhelleputte met with Debre Markos Primary Deputy Mayor Teshome Walle, where discussions focused on Safaricom Ethiopia’s current activities, future expansion plans and its contribution to the local community.

The Safaricom Ethiopia CEO provided an update on the company’s efforts to improve access to digital services, enhance customer experience and strengthen connectivity infrastructure in Debre Markos and surrounding communities.

The engagement forms part of Safaricom Ethiopia’s broader strategy to deepen collaboration with local governments and stakeholders as it continues to expand its presence across the country.

The Primary Deputy Mayor commended Safaricom Ethiopia for its role in advancing Ethiopia’s digital economy and recognised the company’s efforts to create social impact through community-focused initiatives.

Teshome Walle also expressed the administration’s support for Safaricom Ethiopia’s ongoing and future projects in Debre Markos, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the private sector and local authorities in driving digital development.

Safaricom Ethiopia said the visit reinforced its commitment to working with communities and government partners to deliver meaningful connectivity and contribute to Ethiopia’s digital transformation agenda.

The company continues to invest in expanding its telecommunications network, improving access to digital services and supporting initiatives aimed at enabling more Ethiopians to participate in the digital economy.
