ATC Uganda has made its
statutory two percent Gross Annual Revenue contribution to the Uganda
Communications Commission (UCC) to support the expansion of the Uganda
Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF) Programme.
The contribution was
officially handed over during a ceremony presided over by Uganda's Minister of
State for Information, Hon. Joyce Nabosa Ssebugwawo.
The UCUSAF Programme is a
national initiative aimed at extending communications infrastructure, improving
digital skills and expanding access to information and communication technology
(ICT) services in underserved and hard-to-reach communities across Uganda.
The programme supports the
government's broader objective of bridging the digital divide by ensuring that
communities with limited connectivity can benefit from digital services and
participate more fully in the country's digital economy.
Funds contributed through
the statutory mechanism are used to finance projects that improve
telecommunications infrastructure, promote digital inclusion and increase
access to connectivity in areas where commercial investment alone may not be
sufficient.
The initiative also supports
digital literacy programmes designed to equip citizens with the skills needed
to access online services, education, business opportunities and other digital
resources.
Speaking during the handover
ceremony, Minister Ssebugwawo underscored the importance of sustained
investment in universal access initiatives to ensure that no community is left
behind in Uganda's digital transformation journey.
