The Department of Computer
Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)
has hosted a seminar on frontier artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous
agents, and emerging engineering disciplines as part of its industrial collaboration
with Zof AI.
The seminar, themed
“Frontier AI, Autonomous Agents, and the New Engineering Stack Every Enterprise
Now Needs,” brought together students, faculty members, researchers, and
research associates to explore developments in applied artificial intelligence
and the technologies shaping the future of engineering.
The session was delivered by
Kevin Kissi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zof AI, who highlighted the
growing impact of artificial intelligence on the design, development, and
deployment of software systems.
Kissi noted that
advancements in AI are creating new opportunities for engineers and technology
professionals while emphasising the need for stronger collaboration between
academia and industry to build a skilled workforce capable of driving
innovation from Ghana.
He said Ghana must focus on
developing globally competitive technology companies that can serve
international markets while creating local value, adding that universities have
a critical role to play through research collaboration, innovation, and talent
development.
The Provost of the College
of Engineering, Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko, encouraged students to take
advantage of opportunities to engage with industry experts and technology
entrepreneurs, describing such interactions as important in preparing engineers
for the evolving demands of the technology sector.
Prof. Nyarko said the
College of Engineering remains committed to strengthening partnerships with
industry to ensure graduates acquire the skills and experience needed for the
future workforce.
The Head of the Department
of Computer Engineering, Prof. Eric Tutu Tchao, said KNUST has the talent and
expertise required to contribute to the advancement of frontier technologies.
“The talent is here. Our
responsibility is to create the opportunities, partnerships and environment
that will enable our students and researchers to compete and innovate at the
highest level,” he said.
Prof. Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah,
Director of the E-Learning Centre, also called for increased investment, skills
development, and collaboration between universities and industry to support
technology innovation and the creation of practical solutions.
The seminar forms part of
efforts by KNUST and industry partners to expose students and researchers to
emerging technologies while strengthening Ghana’s capacity in artificial
intelligence, engineering innovation, and digital transformation.
