The Regional Centre for
Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) has concluded an IMET Assessment
Workshop at the Mohéli National Marine Park in the Comoros, bringing together
stakeholders to assess the effectiveness of the park’s management and identify
measures to strengthen conservation efforts.
The workshop brought
together park management officials, national authorities, technical experts and
community representatives for several days of discussions focused on the
current state of the protected area, key management challenges and priority
actions.
Participants used the
assessment to review the effectiveness of existing management approaches and
share experiences on addressing challenges affecting the conservation of
Mohéli’s marine ecosystems.
The findings are expected to
contribute to the strengthening of the National Marine Park Management Plan by
providing evidence to support decision-making, improve implementation and help
mobilise resources for conservation activities.
The assessment also
highlighted the importance of collaboration among government institutions,
technical partners, park authorities and local communities in ensuring
effective management of marine protected areas.
RCMRD said the conclusion of
the workshop marks the beginning of efforts to translate the assessment
findings into practical action to improve conservation outcomes and support
communities that depend on Mohéli’s marine ecosystems.
The recommendations
developed during the assessment are expected to provide a framework for
strengthening management practices and advancing the long-term protection of
the park’s marine resources.
