The Chief Executive Officer
of Margins ID Group and Vice Chairman of the ICC Global Digital Economy
Commission, Moses Baiden, has called on African businesses and leaders to move
beyond consuming technology and take a more active role in building the digital
systems that will shape the continent’s future.
Mr. Baiden made the call
while delivering a keynote address at the International Chamber of Commerce
Ghana CEO Breakfast Meeting, held under the theme, “Networking for Growth
within a 24-Hour Economy.”
He said the rapid
advancement of artificial intelligence was transforming industries and creating
new opportunities, but warned that Africa must take greater ownership of its
digital future to fully benefit from the emerging technology landscape.
According to him, building a
sustainable 24-hour economy requires more than adopting technologies developed
elsewhere. It requires strong digital infrastructure, trusted data and the
capacity to develop homegrown solutions that respond to Africa’s specific
economic and social needs.
Mr. Baiden stressed the
importance of African businesses investing in digital capabilities and
developing systems that can support productivity, connectivity and economic
growth across the continent.
He said the transition
towards a more digitally driven economy would require leadership capable of
identifying emerging opportunities and building the systems needed to support
long-term growth.
At Margins ID Group, Mr.
Baiden said the company was demonstrating the importance of African-built
systems and credible data in driving meaningful economic growth.
His remarks come amid
growing discussions across Africa on digital sovereignty, artificial
intelligence, data governance and the need to strengthen local capacity to
develop and control critical digital infrastructure.
