Former British Prime
Minister and Founder and Chairman of the Tony Blair Institute, Sir Tony Blair,
has visited the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute for high-level
discussions on strengthening cooperation in artificial intelligence and digital
transformation.
The meeting focused on
opportunities to expand collaboration between the Tony Blair Institute and the
Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, particularly in using AI to
support the modernisation of public services and Ethiopia’s broader digital transformation
agenda.
During the engagement, Blair
highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence to transform public
service delivery and reaffirmed the Tony Blair Institute’s commitment to
working with the Ethiopian AI Institute to support the country’s digitalisation
efforts.
Dr. Worku Gachena, Director
General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, welcomed the
engagement and acknowledged the Tony Blair Institute’s continued support for
Ethiopia’s digital transformation.
He stressed the importance
of strategic partnerships in accelerating AI-driven innovation and
strengthening the capacity of the public sector to adopt emerging technologies.
The discussions concluded
with a shared commitment to expand cooperation between the two institutions,
with a focus on the development, adoption and responsible implementation of
artificial intelligence technologies in Ethiopia.
