Kenya is seeking to deepen its partnership with Citibank to mobilise long-term capital for infrastructure, investment and other strategic national priorities as the country charts its development agenda beyond Vision 2030.

President William Ruto held talks with Citibank Head of International Business Ernesto Torres Cantú at State House in Nairobi, where the two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen the bank’s role in supporting Kenya’s next phase of economic growth.

President Ruto said Citibank’s 52-year presence in Kenya has established the institution as a trusted partner in the country’s development journey, contributing to economic growth and strengthening Kenya’s integration into the global financial system.

The discussions come as the government advances plans for the establishment of a National Infrastructure Fund and engages stakeholders on development priorities beyond the Vision 2030 framework.

According to President Ruto, the proposed fund and the broader national development conversation create an opportunity for Citibank to expand its partnership with Kenya and support the financing of transformative projects.

The engagement focused on mobilising long-term financing for infrastructure and investment, areas considered critical to sustaining economic growth and supporting Kenya’s development priorities.

The government is increasingly seeking partnerships with financial institutions and private-sector investors to expand access to capital for major infrastructure and development projects.
