CAMTEL is highlighting its
role in Cameroon’s digital infrastructure development as the company
participates in the 2026 Cameroon Internet Governance Forum (IGF Cameroon
2026), taking place from August 18 to 20 at the Yaoundé Convention Center.
Organised by the Ministry of
Posts and Telecommunications (MINPOSTEL) under the high patronage of the Prime
Minister and Head of Government, the forum is being held under the theme “From
fragmentation to interoperability: making data the foundation of digital public
infrastructure in Cameroon.”
The forum brings together
stakeholders to examine the policies, infrastructure and institutional
frameworks required to support a coherent, inclusive and sovereign digital
transformation in Cameroon.
Speaking during the official
opening ceremony, CAMTEL Managing Director Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi
highlighted the company’s responsibility as a public operator and strategic
player in Cameroon’s digital sector.
She pointed to CAMTEL’s
national fibre-optic backbone, international connectivity through submarine
cable systems, access networks, hosting facilities and other connectivity
infrastructure as key components supporting the country’s digital ecosystem.
According to CAMTEL, the
focus of digital transformation must now extend beyond the deployment of
infrastructure to ensuring that networks, platforms and services can interact
securely and efficiently.
Interoperability and
effective data exchange are therefore emerging as critical requirements for
strengthening digital public infrastructure and improving access to digital
services for government institutions, businesses and citizens.
CAMTEL is also maintaining a
strong presence at the forum through its exhibition and engagement activities,
including a dedicated sales team and free Wi-Fi services for participants. The
company says the initiative demonstrates its commitment to improving access to
reliable and efficient connectivity.
