The Mauritius Research and
Innovation Council (MRIC) and the World Intellectual Property Organization
(WIPO) have discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in intellectual
property, innovation, science and technology as Mauritius seeks to strengthen its
innovation ecosystem.
WIPO Director General Daren
Tang held a working session with MRIC leadership and officials at the Council’s
premises in Mauritius.
Tang was accompanied by WIPO
officials Beatriz Amorim-Borher, Loretta Asiedu and Julieta Nhane.
The discussions brought
together Tang and his delegation with MRIC Executive Director Prof. Theesan
Bahorun, Chairperson Dr Khemduth Singh Angateeaah and other MRIC officials.
The session provided an
opportunity for the institutions to exchange views on areas of mutual interest
and explore avenues for closer cooperation in intellectual property
development, innovation, scientific research and technology.
The engagement is expected
to support efforts to strengthen the institutional and policy environment for
innovation in Mauritius and create greater opportunities for researchers,
innovators and other stakeholders.
MRIC said it looks forward
to developing stronger partnerships with WIPO and identifying new opportunities
to support the country’s innovation ecosystem.
