The Internet Corporation for
Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has highlighted the importance of a stable,
secure and interoperable global Internet in supporting resilient digital
economies during the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO)’s 125th
anniversary celebrations in London.
ICANN participated in the
CTO’s Anniversary Week of Activities, with Janis Karklins, Head of Government
Engagement, joining a discussion on “The New Digital Ecosystem at the
Commonwealth Digital Nexus.”
Sally Costerton, Senior
Advisor to the President and Senior Vice President of Global Stakeholder
Engagement at ICANN, also spoke on “Digital Trust, Internet Governance and
Resilient Digital Economies.”
Costerton highlighted the
role of the global Internet’s unique identifier systems and the
multistakeholder model of coordination in supporting reliable and secure
digital connectivity.
ICANN noted that while
technologies have evolved from the subsea cables that connected communities 125
years ago to today’s digital infrastructure, cooperation remains fundamental to
the development and resilience of the digital ecosystem.
The organisation
congratulated the CTO on its anniversary and reaffirmed its commitment to
working with the organisation and partners across the Commonwealth and Africa
to support Internet stability, digital trust and resilient digital economies.
