Zimbabwe has launched
National Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026 at the National University of
Science and Technology (NUST), bringing together government, academia,
industry, students and innovators to promote online safety and strengthen
confidence in digital services.
The campaign is being held
under the theme “Don’t Make It Easy for Them: Build a Cyber Strong Zimbabwe,”
with a focus on collective responsibility for protecting the country’s
increasingly digital society.
NetOne Cellular Private
Limited participated in the launch, with its delegation led by Head of Software
Development, Mr Valentine Mugwati. The telecommunications company said its
involvement reflected its commitment to advancing secure and trusted connectivity
as Zimbabwe accelerates its digital transformation.
The campaign highlights the
need for greater awareness of mobile money fraud, social engineering,
fraudulent online offers, compromised accounts and the protection of children
in digital spaces.
The participation of young
innovators through a hackathon also underscored the role of local talent in
developing practical responses to emerging cybersecurity threats.
Cybersecurity remains a
shared responsibility involving government, industry, communities, households
and individual users, NetOne said, emphasising the importance of collective
action, awareness and innovation in building a safer, more resilient and inclusive
digital ecosystem that supports national development.
