Togo is hosting the Economic
Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Regional Energy Efficiency Data
Validation Workshop from 5 to 9 October 2026, the Ministry Delegate in charge
of Energy and Mineral Resources said.
Organized at the Sarakawa
Hotel in Lomé, the meeting brings together energy and statistics experts from
the twelve ECOWAS Member States.
The opening ceremony was
chaired by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy, in charge of
Energy and Mineral Resources, in the presence of representatives of the ECOWAS
Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), the ECOWAS Commission,
the African Energy Commission (AFREC) of the African Union, the WAEMU
Commission, as well as technical and financial partners.
In his opening speech, the
minister affirmed the importance of validating energy efficiency data. "We
do not manage what we do not measure, and we do not finance what we cannot
demonstrate," he said.
For five days, two experts
per Member State, respectively from the energy services and the national
statistical institutes, will work alongside regional and continental experts to
validate the energy efficiency indicators for the years 2023 and 2024.
At the end of the work, each
country will have a validated database, which will remain its property and will
be able to feed its national energy information system.
The data will also
contribute to the second edition of the Regional Energy Efficiency Report, the
ECOWAS Energy Information System (ECOWAS-IES), the ECOWREX Observatory and
AFREC's continental statistics.
The workshop is organized by
ECREEE, in collaboration with the Departments of Energy and Statistics of the
ECOWAS Commission and AFREC. It is part of the process of preparing the second
edition of the ECOWAS Energy Efficiency Report.
