Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) has hosted a delegation from the European Union’s call centre operators’ association to explore investment and talent development opportunities in the country’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.

The engagement, facilitated by GIZ DTC Kenya, was led by Senior Deputy Data Commissioners Oscar Otieno and John Walubengo.

Discussions highlighted how Kenya’s data protection framework supports BPO and IT outsourcing while fostering trust in the processing of personal data.

The delegation also explored ways to strengthen the business environment through adequacy arrangements and cross-border data transfers under Kenya’s Data Protection Act.

The meeting addressed ongoing adequacy discussions between Kenya and the European Union, which are critical to establishing trusted data flows between Kenya and European markets.
