MoMo from MTN Congo has
partnered with pharmaceutical distributor UbiPharm to digitise payments across
the pharmaceutical supply chain, enabling pharmacies to pay for pharmaceutical
products and customers to settle pharmacy purchases using MoMo.
The partnership agreement
was officially signed at UbiPharm’s headquarters in Pointe-Noire, according to
MoMo from MTN Congo.
Under the agreement,
pharmacists can use MoMo to pay for pharmaceutical products purchased from
UbiPharm, while customers can also use the mobile money service to pay for
their pharmacy purchases.
As part of the initiative,
pharmacies recognised for their commitment to using MoMo were awarded
“Digitalization Champion” diplomas in recognition of their efforts to adopt
digital payments.
MoMo said the partnership
would digitise the entire payment chain, connecting customers, pharmacists and
suppliers through its mobile money service.
“From the customer to the pharmacist,
to the supplier, the entire payment chain is digitized with MoMo!” the company
said, describing the partnership as an example of “MoMorization in action.”
The collaboration forms part
of efforts to expand the use of digital payments in pharmaceutical transactions
in Congo, offering customers and pharmacies an alternative to cash-based
payments.
