Senegal is participating in
the second meeting of the Africa-Indian Ocean Aviation System Planning and
Implementation Group (AASPG/2), taking place from November 2 to 6, 2026, in
Livingstone, Zambia, to review progress and address challenges in air navigation
safety across the Africa-Indian Ocean region.
The Senegalese delegation is
led by the National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM), whose
Director General, Dr. Diaga Basse, is attending alongside the head of the Air
Navigation Department. The Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis (BEA) and AIBD SA,
the airport manager, complete the delegation, bringing together the regulator,
the investigation body and the airport manager.
Convened by the
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the five-day meeting brings
together states, international organizations and industry players from the
Africa-Indian Ocean (AFI) region.
The meeting will review the
results of work undertaken by the Group’s subsidiary bodies within the
performance framework for air navigation safety planning and implementation.
Participants will also
address the identification and resolution of air navigation deficiencies,
project progress, airspace surveillance in the AFI region, safety enhancement
initiatives, national and regional plans, as well as emerging issues.
Beyond the technical
follow-up, the meeting provides African States with a framework to harmonize
their approaches, share their difficulties and make recommendations to ICAO,
including possible amendments to provisions and global indicative elements.
