Mozambique has officially joined the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD), becoming the 108th member of the global system designed to enhance the security and verification of electronic passports.

The announcement was made by the International Civil Aviation Organization following a key import ceremony held in Montréal, Canada, where representatives of the Government of Mozambique formally submitted the root of trust public key required for validating the country’s ePassport credentials.

The ICAO PKD is a global infrastructure that enables participating states to exchange and verify cryptographic information used in electronic travel documents, ensuring that ePassports can be authenticated securely and efficiently across international borders.

With its accession to the system, Mozambique becomes part of a trusted international framework aimed at strengthening border security, improving identity verification processes, and supporting safer and more seamless air travel.

ICAO stated that Mozambique’s participation enhances global interoperability in travel document verification and reflects continued international cooperation in advancing aviation security standards.
