The Board of Directors of
South Sudan's National Communications Authority (NCA) has approved a package of
regulatory measures aimed at ensuring the sustainability, viability, and
continued availability of telecommunications services across the country.
The decision was taken
during an Extraordinary Meeting of the Board, convened to assess the challenges
currently affecting the telecommunications sector and determine appropriate
interventions to safeguard service delivery.
During the meeting, the
Board received a detailed briefing from the Director General on the
macroeconomic and operational difficulties confronting the sector. The
presentation also outlined the Authority's engagements with Mobile Network
Operators and consultations with government institutions, Parliament, civil
society organizations, and other stakeholders to identify practical and
sustainable solutions.
According to the Authority,
the Board acknowledged the extensive efforts undertaken by management to
explore policy options and address the sector's challenges. It commended the
Director General and the management team for their consultative approach and
commitment to maintaining national connectivity while balancing the interests
of consumers and service providers.
Following deliberations, the
Board endorsed a series of regulatory interventions designed to support the
telecommunications industry's long-term sustainability, preserve service
continuity, and ensure that telecommunications services remain accessible to
citizens and businesses throughout the country.
The Board also underscored
the importance of consumer protection, service quality, stakeholder engagement,
and public awareness in the implementation of any measures affecting the
sector.
The National Communications
Authority reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with stakeholders to
promote a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable telecommunications sector
capable of supporting economic growth, digital inclusion, and national development
in South Sudan.
