South
African President Cyril Ramaphosa has attended the Google Cloud Summit at the
Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, where Google unveiled a new
investment aimed at strengthening the country's digital economy and cloud
technology ecosystem.
President
Ramaphosa was received by Google Senior Vice President at Alphabet, James
Manyika, Google South Africa Country Director Kabelo Makwane, and Google Cloud
Vice President Maureen Costello.
The
summit brought together government officials, technology leaders and industry
stakeholders to discuss the role of cloud computing, artificial intelligence
and digital infrastructure in driving South Africa's economic growth and
digital transformation.
The
President's participation underscores the government's commitment to attracting
global technology investments that support innovation, digital skills
development, job creation and improved public services.
Google's
investment announcement is expected to reinforce South Africa's position as a
regional technology hub while expanding cloud capabilities and supporting
businesses and public sector institutions in accelerating their digital
transformation efforts.
The
event also highlighted the growing collaboration between government and global
technology companies in advancing South Africa's digital agenda and building a
more competitive and inclusive digital economy.
