Jean-Philippe
Gillet, President Fixed Vertical at SES, has announced a milestone partnership
between SES and Sharp to jointly develop advanced connectivity solutions
tailored for the Japanese market.
The
collaboration brings together SES’s multi-orbit satellite
infrastructure—including the O3b mPOWER system and the forthcoming MEO-based
constellation—alongside Sharp’s expertise in technology development and system
integration. The initiative is aimed at accelerating the deployment of
resilient, high-performance connectivity services across mobility and
industrial applications.
A
key focus of the partnership is the development of a new generation of compact
Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) user terminals designed to deliver scalable and
efficient broadband connectivity for diverse operational environments. The
companies also plan to adopt an end-to-end service model covering deployment
and ongoing operations to ensure seamless user experience and reliability.
According
to the announcement, Sharp is positioning itself to play a broader role beyond
hardware development, extending into full-service connectivity solutions for
enterprise and mobility customers in Japan.
The
collaboration underscores the rising demand for robust, high-speed
satellite-enabled connectivity in Japan and reinforces SES’s strategic focus on
enabling digital transformation across critical sectors through advanced
space-based infrastructure.
