Côte d’Ivoire’s
telecommunications regulator, the Autorité de Régulation des
Télécommunications/TIC de Côte d’Ivoire (ARTCI), has held a series of bilateral
meetings with Haiti and Senegal while participating in a high-level regulators’
round table during engagements in Geneva.
The meetings were led by the
President of the ARTCI Regulatory Council, Roger Felix Adom, who was
accompanied by members of the regulatory council.
During discussions with
Haiti’s telecommunications regulator, CONATEL, led by Director General Mr.
Previllon, the two sides explored ways to strengthen cooperation in
telecommunications regulation. The meeting also addressed Haiti’s support for
Côte d’Ivoire’s candidacy for a seat on the International Telecommunication
Union (ITU) Council.
ARTCI also held talks with
Senegal’s telecommunications regulator, the Autorité de Régulation des
Télécommunications et des Postes (ARTP), whose delegation was led by Regulatory
Council President Oumar Sakho. Discussions focused on bilateral cooperation and
the respective candidacies of Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal for membership of the
ITU Council.
In addition to the bilateral
meetings, Adom participated in a high-level regulators’ round table on the
theme “Putting the fundamentals of governance into practice.”
Addressing the round table,
he emphasized the importance of evidence-based and proportionate regulation,
stating that effective regulators are those that intervene at the appropriate
time, based on facts, with the right level of intervention and in the long-term
interest of both the market and consumers.
The engagements took place
as regulators from across the world gathered in Geneva for discussions on
digital governance, telecommunications policy and the future of regulatory
frameworks in an evolving digital environment.
