Namibia’s Minister of
Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, has called on the
Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA) to continuously innovate and adapt to changing
trends in the media and communications industry to remain relevant and
sustainable.
The Minister made the
remarks during a quarterly meeting with the newly appointed NAMPA Board of
Directors, as part of the Ministry’s ongoing engagement with public enterprises
under its portfolio to ensure alignment with national priorities and emerging
industry developments.
Theofelus encouraged NAMPA
to focus on reinvention, innovation and organisational transformation as the
media sector continues to experience rapid technological changes.
She emphasised that public
institutions must be prepared to evolve in response to shifting audience
expectations and new communication platforms while maintaining their mandate of
delivering reliable information services.
During the meeting, the
NAMPA Board briefed the Minister on several ongoing initiatives, including the
Airport TV project and preparations for the upcoming Effective Communicators
Conference (ECC) scheduled to take place in Swakopmund.
The conference is expected
to bring together more than 700 participants from 10 countries and will provide
a platform for communication professionals to exchange ideas, share expertise
and discuss emerging trends in the sector.
The Minister congratulated
the NAMPA Board for organising the conference and expressed confidence that the
event has the potential to expand into a leading regional platform for
communication professionals in future editions.
