Kenya’s Ministry of
Information, Communications and the Digital Economy has emphasised the
importance of strategic communication in strengthening public trust and
ensuring citizens understand the impact of the country’s digital transformation
agenda.
The message was delivered
during an engagement between communication teams from the Ministry and its
agencies, addressed by Ms. Farida Karoney, Consultant for Strategic
Communication at the Executive Office of the President.
The session highlighted the
role of government communicators in translating complex digital policies and
programmes into clear, accessible messages that demonstrate how technology
initiatives are improving lives and creating opportunities for citizens.
Principal Secretary for the
State Department of ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui, said
successful digital transformation requires more than innovation and technology,
noting that effective communication remains critical to sustaining public
confidence.
The discussions focused on
three key priorities for government communication teams: communicating impact
rather than activities, maintaining a unified voice across institutions, and
using digital platforms strategically to engage citizens and address misinformation.
Ms. Karoney stressed that
government communicators play a critical role in shaping public understanding,
strengthening credibility and effectively communicating national development
initiatives.
As Kenya continues to
advance its digital economy ambitions, the Ministry noted that communication
teams must move beyond simply sharing information to telling meaningful stories
that connect digital progress with real experiences and benefits for citizens.
