The Botswana Communications
Regulatory Authority (BOCRA), in collaboration with the Ministry of
Communications and Innovation, has officially handed over a state-of-the-art
Digital Centre to Makakung Primary School, marking another step in the
country's efforts to expand digital access and strengthen ICT education.
The facility was officially
inaugurated by Minister of Communications and Innovation, Hon. David Tshere,
who encouraged learners to embrace technology and take full advantage of the
opportunities offered by the new centre.
Ahead of the official
launch, pupils participated in practical training sessions that introduced them
to the use of computers and interactive smart boards. The programme also
exposed learners to key areas of digital technology, including cybersecurity, robotics,
and virtual and augmented reality.
To recognise outstanding
participation and encourage continued interest in digital learning, the
best-performing students received certificates and gifts during the event.
Addressing the learners,
Hon. Tshere urged them to make effective use of the Digital Centre to develop
their digital competencies and share the knowledge they acquire with fellow
students and members of their community.
He said equipping young
people with digital skills is essential to preparing them for future
educational and employment opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven
world.
The event was also attended
by the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Carterpillar Hikuama, who welcomed the
establishment of the facility and commended the investment in the school's
digital infrastructure.
Hon. Hikuama said the
Digital Centre is expected to enhance teaching and learning by providing
learners and teachers with access to modern digital tools and educational
resources, ultimately contributing to improved academic performance.
