Côte d’Ivoire’s
telecommunications regulator, the Autorité de Régulation des TIC (ARTCI),
participated in the Mobile Phones and Applications Fair (STAM) held at the
Sofitel Abidjan Hotel Ivoire, where it underscored the importance of personal
data protection in Africa’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The pan-African event, held
under the theme “Africa, an Innovation Laboratory: Challenges and
Perspectives,” brought together digital industry professionals, smartphone
manufacturers, mobile accessory vendors and application developers to promote
African innovation and strengthen the continent’s mobile technology ecosystem.
Representing ARTCI at the
event, De Granges Kotchi, a lawyer and specialist in personal data protection,
delivered a keynote presentation on “The Security of Personal Data in Africa
in the Digital Age.”
His presentation examined
the growing importance of safeguarding personal data as digital services
continue to expand across the continent. He also highlighted the need to raise
awareness among digital ecosystem stakeholders and strengthen measures that promote
trust, security and responsible data management.
The discussions formed part
of broader efforts to encourage the development of a competitive African
digital economy supported by robust regulatory frameworks and effective data
protection practices.
ARTCI said its participation
in the event reflects its continued commitment to promoting secure digital
transformation and supporting initiatives that enhance confidence in digital
technologies across Côte d’Ivoire and the wider African region.
