The Pan-African Informatics
Olympiad (PAIO) 2026 has officially ended in Kigali, Rwanda, after bringing
together some of Africa’s most promising young computer science talents for a
week of programming competitions, knowledge exchange, and collaboration.
The event attracted
participants from 21 African countries, with young programmers showcasing their
problem-solving abilities and technical skills while competing in one of the
continent’s leading platforms for computer science education and innovation.
Hosted by Rwanda, PAIO 2026
provided an opportunity for students, coaches, team leaders, judges, and
technology educators to strengthen collaboration and promote the growth of
digital skills among Africa’s youth.
The Ministry of ICT and
Innovation of Rwanda congratulated all participants and medalists, including
Team Rwanda, whose performance highlighted the country’s growing investment in
digital talent development and STEM education.
The Ministry also
acknowledged the contribution of the Rwanda Olympiad Foundation, the African
Olympiad Academy, sponsors, partners, volunteers, and organisers whose efforts
supported the successful delivery of the competition.
“PAIO 2026 was not only
about competition but also about strengthening computer science education,
building networks, and inspiring the next generation of African innovators,”
the Ministry said.
As part of the closing
ceremony, Rwanda handed over the PAIO flag to Kenya, which will host the next
edition of the continental competition in 2027.
