Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo Gitau, appeared before the Senate Standing Committee on Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) to respond to questions raised by senators on issues affecting the country’s digital space.

The session, chaired by Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Hon. Senator Kathuri Murungi, explored measures to strengthen digital safety, enhance institutional coordination and address emerging challenges in the digital space.

Kabogo said he reaffirmed his commitment to continued engagement with the Senate to enhance policy, legal and regulatory frameworks in the ICT sector and promote a safe, accessible and inclusive digital environment for all.

The questions were raised by the Senator for Kilifi County, Sen. Stewart Madzayo, EGH, and Senator for Kisumu County, Sen. Prof. Tom Ojienda.

Kabogo was accompanied by the Data Commissioner, Ms. Immaculate Kassait; the CEO of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), Mr. David Mugonyi; and other senior government officials from relevant agencies.

The engagement comes as Kenya continues to address emerging challenges in the digital environment and strengthen its institutional and regulatory frameworks for the ICT sector.
