Côte d’Ivoire is exploring
the opportunities offered by blockchain technologies and digital assets, with
the government seeking to promote innovation while protecting users, preserving
national sovereignty and establishing an appropriate regulatory framework.
Minister of Digital
Transition and Technological Innovation Djibril Ouattara opened the
international seminar “Blockchain Technologies & Digital Assets” in
Abidjan, bringing together institutional, economic, national and international
stakeholders.
The seminar was organised by
VITIB S.A. and VALOORES AFRICOR.
“The blockchain opens up new
opportunities for our economy. It is up to us to create the conditions for its
development with confidence,” Ouattara said in a reflection on the strategic
importance of the subject for the country’s economic future.
He said the government’s
direction was to promote innovation while protecting users, preserving Côte
d’Ivoire’s sovereignty and guaranteeing an appropriate regulatory framework.
Ouattara said the government
wished to engage with the institutions concerned and players in the sector in
discussions on blockchain applications and the conditions for their development
in Côte d’Ivoire, in line with the work of the Central Bank of West African
States (BCEAO).
He commended Dominique
Agnero, VITIB S.A., VALOORES AFRICOR and all participants for the quality of
the exchanges.
