The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) has highlighted the role of satellite connectivity in expanding access to healthcare in underserved and remote communities across Nigeria.

The company participated in the Nigerian Telehealth Conference 2.0, held under the theme “The Future of Healthcare is Connected: Click & Brick,” where stakeholders discussed ways to build a more connected, accessible and sustainable healthcare system.

NIGCOMSAT Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Jane Egerton-Idehen, in her goodwill message, reaffirmed that connectivity offers an opportunity to bridge healthcare gaps, reach underserved communities and build a more inclusive and responsive healthcare system.

The company’s Executive Director for Technical Services, Engr. Abiodun Attah, also joined a panel on policy dialogue, contributing to discussions on advancing telehealth through policy and patient-centred care.

NIGCOMSAT said its satellite communications capabilities position it to support efforts to bridge connectivity gaps, extend digital services to underserved and remote communities, and strengthen the infrastructure needed to expand telehealth services.

The company noted that connectivity could enable patients in remote communities to consult specialists without travelling hundreds of kilometres, while frontline healthcare workers could access expert guidance in real time to make faster, more informed decisions.

“These are not just possibilities; they represent the transformative promise of telehealth and connectivity is at the heart of making them happen,” the company said in a LinkedIn post.

NIGCOMSAT added that access to healthcare should not be determined by geography, stressing that a patient’s location should not become a barrier to timely medical attention, expert advice or continuity of care.

“The future of healthcare is connected. Together, we can help make that connection count,” the company said.
