Cameroon Telecommunications
(CAMTEL) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of a
sovereign, secure and interoperable digital ecosystem in Cameroon, with
infrastructure identified as a critical foundation for the country’s digital
transformation.
The commitment was
reiterated during the closing session of the Internet Governance Forum Cameroon
(IGF Cameroon) 2026, which concluded on August 20 after three days of
discussions on key issues shaping Cameroon’s digital future.
During a high-level
roundtable on the development of a national roadmap for the inclusive
governance of digital public infrastructures, CAMTEL Managing Director Judith
Yah Sunday epse Achidi outlined the company’s contribution to building a
unified and resilient digital ecosystem.
She identified
interoperability, national data repositories, digital identity and data
exchange platforms as key components of CAMTEL’s approach to supporting
Cameroon’s digital transformation.
According to Achidi, digital
applications, algorithms and services can only deliver their full value when
supported by robust infrastructure, reliable transport networks and secure
hosting capabilities.
She said CAMTEL’s
contribution is centred on strengthening connectivity across public and private
infrastructure, expanding national coverage and developing sovereign and
resilient hosting infrastructure.
The company is also focusing
on building specialised human capacity, including through a partnership with
the Ministry of Higher Education that provides students with opportunities for
professional immersion within CAMTEL’s facilities.
Innovation was identified as
another priority, with CAMTEL seeking to support the development of new digital
uses and solutions that respond to the evolving needs of the country’s digital
ecosystem.
The company said its broader
objective is to ensure that data exchange platforms become trusted digital
environments capable of protecting information while guaranteeing the security
and continuity of essential services.
CAMTEL said it remains
available to support the government in implementing an inclusive, sovereign,
secure and sustainable digital transformation agenda.
