The Ministry of Digital
Transition and Administrative Reform of the Kingdom of Morocco and Mistral AI
have made their first artificial intelligence tools developed under their
partnership available in open source, targeting AI applications adapted to Morocco’s
linguistic and cultural realities.
The initial releases form
part of the implementation of Maroc Digital 2030 and the AI Made in Morocco
roadmap, led by Minister Amal EL FALLAH - SEGHROUCHNI, with the stated ambition
of developing sovereign, responsible artificial intelligence adapted to the
needs of the Kingdom.
Two initial tools have been
released. The first is a language identification classifier capable of
recognizing and distinguishing different Arabic dialects, including Moroccan
Darija.
The second is the Voxtral
automatic speech recognition model for Darija, which enables speech to be
transcribed into text, including when speakers alternate between Arabic, French
and English.
The tools are intended to
support administrations, startups, researchers, developers and companies in
developing AI solutions adapted to the way Moroccan citizens use language and
technology.
The applications could
support areas including public services, education, media, customer support,
document digitization and multilingual data processing.
The releases form part of
the broader AI Made in Morocco roadmap, which aims to develop AI capabilities
suited to Moroccan realities. The approach places particular emphasis on
enabling AI to better understand Darija and, gradually, the national languages.
According to the Ministry,
the developments are intended to contribute to digital inclusion, improve the
quality of public services and strengthen Morocco's ability to master its
technological choices.
The new tools complement
artificial intelligence solutions designed and trained internally by the
Ministry for its AI marketplace and to meet the needs of administrations and
public services.
The Ministry said other
models and use cases are being developed as part of its partnership with
Mistral AI.
