The Ethiopian Artificial
Intelligence Institute (AII) has launched the fifth edition of its Summer Camp
2026 programme, expanding its efforts to equip young people with artificial
intelligence and digital technology skills.
The programme builds on four
years of youth training initiatives and this year will provide training for 500
teenagers over a two-month period.
Speaking at the launch
ceremony, Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute,
Dr. Werku Gachena, said artificial intelligence is playing a transformative
role in shaping Ethiopia’s future generation and supporting the country’s development.
He also revealed that an AI University is currently under construction as part
of efforts to strengthen the country’s artificial intelligence ecosystem.
Dr. Gachena encouraged
participants to make the most of the training by working collaboratively and
remaining committed throughout the programme.
Judith Mola, Head of the
Startup and Industry Linkage Division at the institute, said the fifth round of
the summer camp will receive practical support from more than 50 experts with
experience in artificial intelligence, robotics, data science, programming and
machine learning.
She noted that the programme
is designed to provide participants with practical skills and hands-on
experience across key technology disciplines that are increasingly important in
the digital economy.
As part of the launch
activities, the trainees and their parents toured the Ethiopian Artificial
Intelligence Institute to gain first-hand insight into its research, innovation
and technology development activities.
