Africa CDC Director General extends condolences to Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan

Africa CDC Director General Dr Jean Kaseya has travelled to Zanzibar to convey condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband.

Kaseya arrived in Zanzibar on September 8, 2026, to personally extend his sympathies to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania.

He conveyed the deepest condolences of African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and the wider Africa CDC community to the President and her family during the period of mourning.

Kaseya said the African Union and Africa CDC stand in solidarity with President Samia and the people of Tanzania as they mourn the loss.

He also expressed hopes that the bereaved family would find strength and comfort during what he described as a profound and difficult period.
